Roger Songer roger@campus-house.com Roger and Sue Songer are both originally from nearby Newton, Illinois. They have three daughters: Rachel (33) married to Randy Reed, Leah (30), and Rebekah (26). Roger came to Christian Campus House in 1984 after serving in campus ministry at Oklahoma State University for five years. He began in ministry in 1973 as the associate minister at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois. Roger is currently in his 28th year with CCH, his 33rd year in campus ministry, and has served for 38 total years in ministry. Roger attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Terre Haute, IN) (Electrical Engineering) and St. Louis Christian College, and is a graduate of both Lincoln Christian University (B.A., Christian Ministries, 1976) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL) (M.A. in New Testament, 1979). Sue attended St. Louis Christian College. After delaying her education to become a full-time mom, she attended EIU and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. She taught English at EIU, but since 1999 she has served as EIU’s International Student Advisor. However, she is currently on disability leave due to the serious injuries and subsequent complications she suffered from a fall in June of 2010. Roger and Sue are proud of their girls. Rachel is a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, serving as an air medic and instructor. Leah is a speech pathologist in a hospital in Chicago, working with patients who have suffered brain trauma. And Rebekah is carrying on the campus ministry tradition, serving as an associate campus minister with "Axiom"--our sister ministry at the University of Illinois in Urbana. Roger jokes that he "... has not left the college campus since he started out as a freshman in 1971." Campus ministry has been his passion, and he looks forward to experiencing what God has in store for Christian Campus House in the next decade. And Sue can't wait to be a grandma. |
